Evaluating Human Perception On Cateogrical Scatterplots

The purpose of this research study is to understand how people interpret visualized information. You are eligible to participate in this research study if you are over 18 years old, have no color vision deficiencies, have normal or corrected-to-normal (e.g., glasses or contacts) vision, and have not already completed this study.

Being in a research study is completely voluntary. You can choose not to be in this research study. You can also say yes now and change your mind later. Note that if you end the study before completing it, your data will not be recorded and you will not be eligible to submit the HIT.

If you agree to take part in this research, you will be shown a series of visualizations and asked to use those visualizations to estimate specific statistics or patterns. Your participation in this study will take less than 20 minutes. You can choose to stop taking the survey at any time. You must be at least 18 years old to participate. If you are younger than 18 years old, please do not proceed with this study.

The possible risks to you in taking part in this research are: Consequences of breach of confidentiality. The possible benefits to you for taking part in this research are: There are no direct benefits to subjects as a result of participating in this study.

Privacy and Confidentiality: MTurk worker IDs will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team, will be removed from the dataset. Note that Amazon.com has stated that the MTurk platform is not meant to support participant anonymity. MTurk worker IDs are linked to Amazon.com public profiles. Amazon.com may disclose worker information; in the event that subjects contacts the study team through the MTurk platform, Amazon may provide names to the researcher. Additionally, worker information may be available to others (who submit a request) for tax reporting purpose. However, the research team will not make any attempts to deidentify any participants through their public profiles, tax reporting, or any other means. MTurk worker IDs will only be collected for the purposes of distributing compensation and will not be associated with survey responses. We will delete all worker IDs from our data after compensation has been issued. Responses will be screened for honest participation prior to compensation.
